What is a Registered Agent?

A registered agent is a person or service designated to receive official legal and government correspondence on behalf of your California LLC or corporation.

Registered Agent Basics

A registered agent (also called a statutory agent or agent for service of process) is a person or company designated to receive official government and legal documents on behalf of your business. Every California LLC and corporation is required by law to maintain a registered agent with a physical street address in California.

Documents served to your registered agent include notices from the California Secretary of State, legal summons and complaints (service of process), and correspondence from the Franchise Tax Board. Missing these documents can have serious consequences — including a default judgment if you're sued and don't respond because the summons was delivered to an outdated address.

Administry includes registered agent service in every plan. Your business's registered agent address is Administry's California office address. All mail received is scanned within 24 hours, uploaded to your document vault, and you're notified immediately.
